Diversity
in STEM

About the project

Challenging stereotypes. Expanding horizons. Changing science.

Diversity in STEM is an education project aimed at helping GCSE Science teachers challenge stereotypes about who can be a scientist.

We believe that when students see a wider, truer picture of science, one that reflects the diversity of the real world, they’re more likely to feel that science is for them.

This site introduces an interactive activity called The Challenge alongside free teaching resources.

Our Goals

  • Encourage students from all backgrounds to see science as inclusive and accessible
  • Equip teachers with practical, thought-provoking classroom tools
  • Support research into how representation affects science identity and engagement

Funding

The project was funded by the British Academy and the University of Warwick.

Acknowledgements

The teaching resources were developed by Dr James Poskett (University of Warwick).
